YouTube Data API

Create a Google Cloud API key for YouTube-powered imports, metadata and supported content workflows.

Use a restricted key and monitor quota usage.

1. Create a Google Cloud project

Open Google Cloud Console, create or select a project and confirm billing/quota requirements for your account.

2. Enable YouTube Data API v3

  1. Open APIs & Services → Library.
  2. Search for YouTube Data API v3.
  3. Click Enable.

3. Create an API key

Open APIs & Services → Credentials → Create credentials → API key. Copy the key into a secure password manager.

4. Restrict the key

  • Restrict the key to the APIs required by the installation.
  • Use HTTP referrer or server/IP restrictions according to where the key is used.
  • Set API quota alerts and rotate the key if it is exposed.

5. Configure the application

Open the relevant YouTube/API setting in your PlayTubeVideo admin panel and paste the key. Save, then test a small import/search operation and verify that quota errors are logged clearly.

Quota reminder: avoid importing large catalogs in one request. Use moderation and rate limits when exposing imports to creators.
